나는 오랫동안 시계를 하나의 형태이자 개념으로 바라보며, 시간에 대한 사유를 작업으로 풀어왔다.
시계는 시간을 가시화하기 위해 인간이 만들어낸 장치이며, 시간을 공유하기 위한 언어이다. 그것은 모두에게 동일한 단위를 부여함으로써 평등을 약속하는 듯 보인다. 그러나 그 균질함 속에는 수많은 차이가 숨겨져 있다. 같은 시간 안에서도 각자의 삶은 서로 다른 리듬과 감정, 속도로 흘러간다.
이 작업에서 나는 전통적인 시계의 질서에서 벗어나, 숫자 대신 상징적인 언어와 기호를 사용했다. 이 요소들은 정확한 측정보다는 직관과 감각에 호소한다. 시곗바늘은 기준점 없이 끝없이 회전하며, 시간은 하나의 목적지를 향해 나아가기보다는 불안정하고 통제할 수 없는 방식으로 펼쳐진다는 점을 드러낸다.
여기서 시간은 관리하거나 소유할 수 있는 대상이 아니다.
시간은 저장될 수도, 수정될 수도, 완전히 이해될 수도 없다. 그저 흘러갈 뿐이다. 숫자를 제거함으로써 이 작업은 시간을 생산성, 일정, 목표의 관점이 아닌, 살아지는 조건으로 사유할 수 있는지를 묻는다.
화분과 살아 있는 식물의 등장은 이러한 질문을 확장한다.
식물은 인간의 계획과 무관하게 자라며, 우연과 환경, 보이지 않는 조건들에 의해 형태를 바꾼다. 식물에게 시간은 계산의 대상이 아니라 존재의 조건이다. 그것들은 멈추고, 자라고, 시들고, 다시 변화한다.
‘화분에 심긴 삶’이라는 은유를 통해, 이 작업은 시간이 통제 불가능하다는 사실을 인정하면서도, 그 안에서 우리가 머무는 방식은 고정되어 있지 않음을 제안한다. 불확실성 속에서도 성장과 개방, 그리고 생성의 가능성은 남아 있다. 시간은 우리의 것이 아닐지라도, 우리는 여전히 그 안에서 살아간다.

I have long approached clocks as both form and concept, developing a sustained body of work that examines the structure and experience of time.
A clock is a human construction, a language created to make time visible and shareable. It promises equality by assigning the same units to everyone. Yet this apparent uniformity conceals countless differences. Within the same measured time, each person lives a distinct rhythm, emotion, and pace.
In this work, I move away from the conventional order of clocks by replacing numerical values with symbolic language and signs. These elements resist precise measurement and instead appeal to intuition and sensation. The clock hands rotate continuously without a fixed reference point, suggesting that time does not move toward a single destination but unfolds in unstable and uncontrollable ways.
Time here is not something to be managed or possessed. It cannot be stored, corrected, or fully understood. It only passes, indifferent to intention. By removing numerical certainty, the work asks whether time can exist beyond productivity, schedules, and goals, as a lived condition rather than a measured resource.
The inclusion of a flowerpot and living plants extends this inquiry. Life grows without regard for human plans, shaped by chance, environment, and unseen forces. Plants respond to time not by calculation but by presence. They grow, pause, wither, and regenerate according to conditions beyond control.
Through the metaphor of life planted in a pot, this work suggests that while time itself remains uncontrollable, our way of inhabiting it is not fixed. Within uncertainty, there remains the possibility of growth, openness, and becoming. Time may not belong to us, but we continue to live within it.
