People often say, “Let’s get a cup of coffee” to friends, colleagues, or even acquaintances.
But this phrase doesn’t always mean they’ll actually drink coffee.
In many cases, “a cup of coffee” is just a way of saying, “Let’s spend some time together.”
In this context, the idea of “a cup” becomes symbolic—its meaning shifts depending on the individual and the situation.
For one person, it might represent a warm connection; for another, a brief pause in a busy day.
This project explores the subjectivity of measurement—how even something as seemingly simple as “a cup” can carry vastly different meanings. Through this work, I invite people to reflect on and redefine what “a cup” means to them.

사람들은 친구, 동료, 혹은 지인에게 종종 “커피 한 잔 하자”라는 말을 건넵니다.
하지만 이 말이 실제로 커피를 마신다는 뜻은 아닐 때가 많습니다.
이 표현 속의 ‘커피 한 잔’은 단순히 한 잔 단위의 커피를 같이 마시자는 의미보다는 “같이 시간을 보내자”는 의미일 수 있습니다.
이처럼 ‘한 잔’이라는 개념은 상황과 사람에 따라 전혀 다른 의미를 가질 수 있습니다.
이 작업은 바로 그 지점에서 출발합니다.
우리가 일상적으로 사용하는 측정 단위의 주관성을 발견하고,
관객에게 “한 잔”이라는 표현의 의미를 스스로 다시 정의해보도록 질문을 던집니다.
