<The Bowl of Memory> is a sculpture that invites something to be placed within it. Over time, water fills and empties the small space held in the palms, evoking the Buddhist concept of the bowl—a symbol of emptiness and fullness. To receive something new, one must first be empty.
This hand-shaped bowl serves as a vessel for forgotten memories. With time, memory fades, becomes distorted, or is replaced. Even the most vivid recollections grow dim, layered beneath newer experiences.
In this work, the act of cupping water in the hands parallels the act of cleansing. Containment and release occur simultaneously. As the water rinses away the soap, the soap itself dissolves. And in that gradual disappearance, the precious, once-forgotten memories—objects of personal significance—begin to reemerge.
This soap bowl purifies clouded, stained items that stand in for memory. For those who grieve the fading of time or the loss of the past, this hand-shaped vessel offers a quiet ritual of remembrance—helping memory to circulate once more.

〈The Bowl of Memory〉는 무언가를 담기 위한 자세를 하고 있습니다.
시간이 흐르며 손 안의 작은 공간에 물이 채워지고, 다시 비워지기를 반복합니다.
‘그릇’은 불교 철학에서 비움과 채움이 반복되는 존재로 여겨집니다.
무언가를 새롭게 채우기 위해서는 먼저 비워져야 하며, 이 손의 형태를 한 조각은 잊혀진 기억을 다시 떠올리게 하는 그릇이 됩니다.
기억은 시간이 지나면서 왜곡되거나 사라지기도 합니다.
아무리 인상적인 기억이라도 점점 흐려지고, 그 위에 새로운 기억들이 덧쌓여 갑니다.
〈The Bowl of Memory〉에서 손에 물을 담는 행위는 무언가를 씻어내는 행위와도 겹쳐집니다.
이 작업 안에서는 담는 것과 비우는 것, 기억하는 것과 잊는 것이 동시에 일어납니다.
물이 비누를 씻어내는 동안 비누의 형태는 점점 사라지고, 그 안에 숨어 있던 나에게 소중했던 기억들, 기념물 같은 것들이 시간이 지나며 드러납니다.
이 비누 그릇은 탁해지고 얼룩진 기억들을 씻어내며, 기억을 상징하는 사물들을 정화합니다.
사라지는 것을 슬퍼하는 이들에게 이 손 그릇은 기억의 순환을 도와주고 위로가 되는 도구가 될 수 있기를 바랍니다.
