Emotional Remnants(정서의 잔상), 2024, Mixed Media (White Clay Ball, Pencil), Dimensions Variable
This work began with my habit of leaving behind the remnants of thoughts in my mind and the echoes of a single event. Various trivial thoughts, along with those that are unfinished—perhaps thoughts that will never be complete—served as the starting point for this piece. These thoughts are symbolized within the work as small masses that can be held in hand. Although they are small, they can sometimes be painful when stepped on or can provide a refreshing sensation. They can also connect freely and randomly with other thought masses, resulting in a more complex array of remnants in my mind.
<Emotional Remnants> is an installation art piece that invites viewers to become part of the artwork and interact with it. The countless white spheres symbolize the trivial thoughts and unfinished emotional remnants residing in the artist’s mind, with words related to various emotions and actions of daily life inscribed on each sphere. Viewers are encouraged to freely move these spheres and create new combinations of words, causing the emotional remnants within the artwork to constantly change and shift in the space. Over time, the white spheres repeatedly move, becoming grey, which conveys the idea that thoughts and emotions evolve and leave traces as time passes.
In contrast, the clean spheres with nothing inscribed represent the untamed potential of pure thoughts or emotions. <Emotional Remnants> not only expresses the complex emotional remnants floating in one’s mind but also allows viewers to engage with their emotions through participation, generating diverse interpretations and meanings. Through this work, I hope viewers can explore the complex inner world of humanity, where their thoughts and feelings flow freely, transforming and combining according to their individual experiences.
이 작업은 나의 상념 가득한 머릿속과 하나의 사건에 대한 잔상들을 계속 머릿속에 남기는 습관에서 시작되었다. 여러 자잘한 생각들, 그리고 아직 완성되지 않은, 어쩌면 영원히 끝나지 않을 것 같은 생각들이 이 작품의 출발점이었다. 이 생각들은 작품속에서 손에 쥘 수 있을 만큼 작은 크기의 덩어리로 상징된다. 비록 크기는 작지만, 때로는 밟으면 아프기도하고 혹은 시원함을 줄 수 있기도 하다. 그리고 다른 생각의 덩어리들과 자유롭고 무작위하게 연결 될 수 있으며 그 결과 나의 머릿속에 여러 잔상들을 만들면서 더욱 복잡하게 만든다.
<정서의 잔상>은 관람객들이 작품의 일부가 되어 상호작용할 수 있는 설치 미술 작품이다. 수많은 하얀색 공들은 작가의 머릿속에 남아 있는 자잘한 생각들과 미완성된 감정의 잔상을 상징하며, 각 공에는 인간의 일상과 연관된 다양한 정서와 행동에 관한 단어들이 적혀 있다. 관람객들은 이 공들을 자유롭게 움직이며 새로운 단어들을 조합할 수 있으며, 이를 통해 작품 속의 정서적 잔상들이 공간 안에서 끊임없이 변화하고 이동한다. 흰 공들은 시간의 흐름에 따라 반복적으로 움직이면서 점점 꼬질꼬질해지는데, 이를 통해 나는 생각과 감정이 시간의 흐름에 따라 변화하고 흔적을 남긴다는 것을 이야기하고자 했다.
반면, 아무것도 적혀 있지 않은 깨끗한 공들은 아직 다듬어지지 않은 순수한 생각이나 정서의 가능성을 뜻한다. <정서의 잔상>은 단순히 머릿속에 떠도는 복잡한 정서의 잔상들을 표현하는 것뿐만 아니라, 관람객들이 참여를 통해 자신의 정서와 상호작용하며 각기 다른 해석과 의미를 만들어낼 수 있는 작품이다. 이 작품을 통해 관람객들이 자신의 생각과 감정이 자유롭게 흐르며, 각자의 경험에 따라 변형되고 조합될 수 있는 인간의 복잡한 내면세계를 탐험할 수 있기를 바란다.
